Most bathrooms are not designed for people with limited mobility. They can be cramped, difficult to move around in, and present a number of safety challenges. Fortunately, there are a lot of simple modifications you can make to improve accessibility in your bathroom:

Install grab bars:

Grab bars give you more support when moving around the bathroom. They come in many shapes and sizes and can be installed in almost any area of your bathroom. They are most frequently used near the toilet and shower.

Remodel the shower:

Remodeling your shower with a barrier free design will make it easier for you to get in and out. This can be done in a variety of ways – installing tubs with access doors or showers with barrier free doors are the most common.

Install a shower chair:

An alternative to a shower renovation is installing a shower chair in your bathtub. Chairs come in a number of sizes and styles and will fit in most tubs. Use a chair in combination with a grab bar to make getting in and out of the tub easier and safer.

Use a raised toilet seat:

Raised toilet seats make it easier to sit up and stand up and transfer onto the toilet from a wheelchair. Most come with safety handles making it easier to use. Stationary commodes are also an alternative option to consider.

Each person is different and assessing your individual needs will help you find the right modifications for your situation. Learn more about your bathroom renovation and modification options with MED+. Check out our bathroom safety products. Contact us to request a free estimate anytime!
